A teenager was fatally shot at a downtown Rochester hotel early Sunday morning.
Officials at the Radisson Hotel on East Main Street tell us the incident started as a fight between two guests just before 1 a.m.
On the tenth floor, officers found a 19-year-old who had been shot in the upper body.
He died at Strong Hospital.
Many people were seen trying to leave the scene after shots were fired.
Dozens of witnesses were taken into police custody for questioning. The hotel was not evacuated, but those who left were not immediately let back in.
“The safety of our guests is our priority,” said Mike Ellman, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing. “I can assure them there is no threat or danger to any other guests in the hotel at this time.”
A number of Rochester police were called to Strong Hospital following the shooting as upset family members and friends arrived.
They say there were no major issues but a several officers stayed on scene to keep the crowd under control.
“I think with any type of situation like this families can get emotional, they get emotional when they respond to the hospital looking for what happened,” Capt. Gary Moxley said. “We had some emotional family members, but that’s what happened.”
Rochester police have not yet announced the identity of the victim.
